New Video Segment Coming Soon!
Share
As some may or may not have known one of the things I like to do and promote are volunteering with non profits, particularly with tourist railroads or railroad museums.
What I came to realize is that many people do not know what takes to do so or what is involved and may be hesitant to give it a try. Therefore I'm pleased to announce that along with new railroad safety videos and my usual content I will be featuring new content on what is involved in volunteering. You will learn from me from my experiences as well as hearing from others on their experiences on volunteering whether it is on the operating crew, car host crew or tour guides!
You'll learn what to look for when it comes to equipment, what you'll need to bring and of all the great things you'll get to experience when you sign up as a volunteer working with the general public and heritage equipment including how to deal with emergency situations.
So climb aboard as we kick off this segment on volunteering for beginners coming soon into the station. All aboard for the Junction!

I happen to know what is involved in volunteering for a railroad museum. I used to volunteer at the Hesston Steam Museum in Laporte, Indiana for several years.
It’s not all fun and games, trust me. The public doesn’t see what happens during the off season or before it opens for the day. A lot of hard work has to be done be, during, and after hours.
Always work to be done, engine maintenance, track maintenance, building repairs, ground keeping.
It never stops.
